Introducing new look Quilon and brand new Q Bar

The new design includes brand new Q Bar and a stunning new private dining room with private bar, kitchen and entrance. Seating up to 16, the dining room will be a restaurant within a restaurant, offering a unique dining experience in London.

Executive Chef Sriram Aylur says ‘having opened in 1999, I felt we really needed a contemporary new look. I wanted it to be in keeping with Quilon’s elegant cuisine and relaxed, stylish atmosphere, while reflecting the ethnicity and quality of our food. I feel we have really achieved this and we are all very proud of the new look!’ The addition of Q Bar completes Quilon’s transformation.

Already famed for its wine and beer offering, the restaurant has introduced new wine and beer lists carefully selected by Executive Chef Sriram Aylur and Master of Wine Peter McCombie. The wine list includes 135 bins from well-known producers as well as more boutique vineyards and lesser-known regions around the world. There will also be a whisky list with over 50 varieties, while the 20-strong beer list will include a selection of British, vintage and world beers. These will be available at Q Bar, alongside creative spiced cocktails.

Q Bar is a place for people to pop into on the way past for a quick drink and a snack, or come to wind-down after work. It is fun and relaxed, while maintaining Quilon’s elegance and atmosphere.

The bar canapé menu, specially created by Head Chef Ramesh Ganiga offers customers the option of sampling the famous, Michelin starred cuisine on a sharing or light bite basis. Dishes will include crispy fried spiced silver fish; tamarind glazed chicken winglets; semolina chips with tomato chutney and batter fried plaintain, asparagus and baby carrot with artichoke dip.

Q Bar adds another dimension to an already famed and popular restaurant.

Be sure to get there fast…they’ll be Q’ing around the block.

Quilon, has retained its Michelin star for the fifth year in the 2012 Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland, published 6th October 2011.

Speaking directly from the kitchen, Executive Chef Sriram Aylur comments; ‘myself and the team are truly delighted. A Michelin star is the ultimate recognition and to retain our star for a fifth year reflects all of our hard work. This pays tribute to the team who have worked incredibly hard to maintain exceptional standards at every service.’

First awarded a Michelin star in the 2008 guide, Quilon (owned by the Taj Group) became the first restaurant serving south-west Indian cuisine to be bestowed with the accolade, and remains the only Michelin starred south Indian restaurant in the world.

Renowned for his unchallenged knowledge of spices, stunning desserts and beautiful fish dishes – including subtly spiced, baked black cod – Sriram is dedicated to progressive cooking and exploring every possibility to further Indian cuisine.

He comments; ‘I use traditional methods as well as modern techniques, combing ethnic cooking with contemporary taste.’

Chef Sriram made “Beer Drinker of the Year” by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group. Announcing the award at the Beer Awards dinner in London the Group’s Chairman, Burton-upon-Trent MP Andrew Griffiths said: “Our 2011 Beer Drinker of the Year is passionate about our national drink, and a beer champion. His restaurant is now a magnet for brewers from all over the world, for gastronomes and those who want a lunch or dinner with a real difference.

“Not content with this exotic offering, Sriram has recently created a special 5 course all British beer menu – to add to his 5 and 8 course global beer menus, each course served with a different beer; and to cap all that he has recently introduced Britain’s first Vintage Beer Menu boasting nine British beers from Fuller’s of Chiswick, ranging from their ethereal 1999 vintage right up to their succulent, youthfully exuberant 2010.”

Sriram Aylur is the eighteenth in a distinguished list of previous winners, including HRH The Prince of Wales, Michael Parkinson, and fellow restaurateur Michel Roux.

Thank you to all our dinners who raised £1170.00 for Water Aid, a charity who transform lives by improving access to safe water and sanitation in 26 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific region.

Ever month a different charity is represented in Quilon and dinners are invited to add a £1.00 donation on top of their bill which goes to the charity.

During the month of July we will be collecting donations for CRY ‘Cardiac Arrest in the Young’ . CRY work with the Department of Health and others to develop high quality cardiac services for young people and families. CRY also provides a significant amount of funding to the NHS to help ‘fast-track’ the complex range of services needed following a sudden cardiac death to determine the risk to other family members. CRY is to be congratulated for its ongoing role in the development of these services.”

Thank you for your support,

Tonight Chef Sriram Aylur will not be in his usual kitchen in Quilon but at St. James’s Palace cooking for HRH The Prince of Wales and his honoured guests at a dinner to celebrate The British Asian Trust.

The British Asian Trust, started by The Prince, which serves as a ‘social fund’ to support high impact charities within the areas of education, enterprise and health in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the UK. “By supporting carefully selected projects, often with small sums of financial assistance, we have shown how we can utterly transform the live of those in need, creating lasting change,” said His Royal Highness. “Working through, and in partnership with charitable organisations on the ground, we are able to empower local communities by offering innovative and practical solutions to social and economic problems, enabling those communities to move towards self-sufficiency,” he said.

For Trust Ambassador Chef Sriram, Quilon, Taj and parent company Tata, supporting the Trust and the work of the charities is a principle deeply rooted in the ethics of the employer and employees. Quilon supports the national and international efforts of charity to continually improve the access to health and education of those who’s opportunities are limited. “I am proud of Quilon’s partnership and look forward to further opportunities to support The British Asian Trust’s aims,” he said.
